What’s my style?

We photograph all images in full digital color, but also enjoy using both black & white & sepia tones to enhance the beauty of the images.  We like to let the session happen naturally, we want the child to feel comfortable and relaxed.  The best shots are usually those that are pleasantly unexpected.  Those are the shots that really capture the true essence and personality of your child.  In order to maintain a casual, fun, and relaxed atmosphere we make sure to schedule enough time during each session to never feel rushed and to always be 100% in the moment with your child. Our ultimate goal is to present you with timeless images that will warm your heart and help you celebrate each unique stage in your child’s life.

How do I book a session?

To book a session, please call at 714.336.1505 or feel free to email Cheryl at Cheryl@sadiejamesphotography.com .   It is best to schedule your session as far in advance as possible, as sessions book up quickly.  We tend to book about 4-6 weeks out for weekday appointments and 6-8 weeks out for weekend appoinments.  Times can increase during our busy holiday seasons.  For maternity and newborn sessions it is best to reserve your session 2-3 months before the baby arrives.  **Any sessions that are requested within TWO weeks of calling are considered Priority Sessions and do require a minimum purchase to be made at the time of the session.

We will do whatever we can to try to accommodate your needs.  Please remember when booking a session to schedule sessions around your child’s naptimes, so they will be in the best possible mood to take pictures.  Also, if your child is not feeling well, please do not hesitate to call Cheryl and reschedule for another date.  A 48 hour notice is greatly appreciated.

 Is a deposit required?

Yes, a deposit of $200 is required to book your session.  This deposit is non-refundable and will be applied to your session fee.  Once you book a photo session, you will have 72 hours to submit the deposit to secure your appointment.  If the deposit is not received within 72 hours, you will forfeit your appointment and you may call again to re-schedule a different date and time.  You may bring your deposit in person, or mail it in.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand how busy life can be, and that unexpected things happen so if you need to reschedule your appointment, please contact me at least 48 hours before the session so your deposit can be applied to another session.  There is a waiting list for many appointments, so if you are unable to have your child's portrait session, please call so someone else can use the time.

What does my session fee include?

Session fees are based on 4 people or less.  For each additional person over 4, $25 per person will be added to your session fee.  Your session fee compensates the photographer for her time and creative talents, before, during, and after the shoot.  This session fee includes all of the post-session work such as photo retouching that will remove any unwanted imperfections.  The session fee also includes digital proofing available for you to view online only a few weeks after the session.

What’s the best location?

Location is really up to you.  It depends what look and feel you desire for your portraits.  All in-studio sessions take place in the studio located in my loft.  The sessions usually last about an hour, depending on the age of the child and how many people are being photographed.  Keep in mind that newborn sessions usually last the longest, and sessions with one subject are usually the shortest.

On location sessions are also available at the location of your choice: your home, the beach, a park.  Ideal locations are ones where your child feels comfortable and at ease.  When choosing a location simplicity is best.  It is usually best to shoot during the early mornings or late afternoons when natural light is optimal, however there are some exceptions depending on the location selected.

When is the best time to schedule my maternity/newborn session?

It is best to book your maternity session between weeks 32-34 when you are showing but are not going to be uncomfortable posing for your session.  Newborn sessions should usually be done within the first 2 weeks of life, in order to achieve that beautiful sleepy “newborn” look. We do advise that you reserve your newborn session early in order to avoid any priority session minimums that would be required for last minute booking.

What should I wear?

Clothing choice is one of the most important factors when determining the final outcome of your portraits.  We suggest sticking with the basics: white or black shirts free of logos or patterns, jeans, overalls, sundresses, or khakis.

Newborns and babies are best photographed in their “birthday suits”.  A simple cloth diaper cover or nothing at all will help us achieve the best possible portrait of your new baby.  I often like to use a dark background and the parents as props for the portraits, so I suggest them wearing all black and bringing a change of clothes just in case their little bundle of joy has a little accident during the session.

If there are going to be multiple people in the portrait, clothing color, tones, and style should be similar to achieve the best results.

What should I bring to the session?

With regards to props, I find that less is more.  Simple items are best, such as a favorite toy or blanket.  Family heirlooms are also wonderful to have on hand to create a timeless look and feel to the portraits. Try to avoid bring any items to the session that you do not want in the pictures such as pacifiers, etc.  Also, don’t worry if your child had minor scratches or bruises.  We know that kids will be kids, and all of these imperfections can be retouched digitally after the session.

How many shots will you take at the session?

We will take as many frames necessary to truly capture the essence of your child/family.  In a typical session, we will take between 200-300 photos. 

How and when will I be able to view my proofs?

Within 3 weeks after your session, we will select the best 20-50 images depending on your package, retouch them and send you a link to access your slideshow online. Slideshows will be available online for 2 weeks from the date the link is sent to you and your portrait choices must be made within that timeframe.

How soon after I order will my prints and coffee table books arrive?

Prints should be available to pick up 2-4 weeks after your order is placed. Other items such as coffee table books should be available within 4-6 weeks.

Do you offer gift certificates or a Photo Registry Program?

Do you offer more than just portraits?

We sure do! We offer a wide variety of different items to display your portraits.  We have purses, jewelry, stationary, calendars, magnets, coffee table books, wallet folios, the options are endless, if you don't see it just ask!
